Home Ground Advantage Geelong AFL Home Games Schedule

Geelong’s 2022 fixture will be welcomed by members and supporters as it offers an incredible array of quality home games and away games in every Australian state.

The Cats will again have nine home games at GMHBA Stadium, with a match ups against 2021 finalists Melbourne, Western Bulldogs, Brisbane, and Port Adelaide. The Cats will also welcome Adelaide, Fremantle, West Coast, St Kilda, and North Melbourne to GMHBA Stadium.

The season will begin with the Powercor country festival against Essendon at the MCG, and the traditional easter Monday game against the Hawks remains in round 5 as an away game at the MCG.

Afl Fixture Announced

Six interstate games will be spread across Sydney, Canberra, Hobart, Gold Coast, Perth, and Adelaide, allowing supporters in those cities to enjoy seeing the Cats in action. 

“We are excited about the prospect of welcoming our loyal members and supporters back to games, and they will be in for some exceptional contests. We recognise the past two years have been difficult for our members. Their passion for the club in continuing to support us has been critical to our long-term viability and we thank all members for their loyalty through these difficult times.  

“Starting the season at the MCG in the annual Powercor country festival is a fantastic way to welcome in the new season. There is a great mix of opponents at GMHBA Stadium, with four elite teams from 2021 heading to Geelong, and a good spread of Melbourne and interstate-based teams playing here. 

Afl Fixture Revealed

“Our interstate members and supporters will be able to see us live in action in six states and territories, and we also play a total of seven games in total at the MCG and Marvel Stadium. So, there are plenty of chances for supporters regardless of where they live to catch the Cats in action. 

“Sir Doug Nicholls round will be held over rounds 10 and 11, and we have back-to-back home games at GMHBA Stadium as part of this celebration. 

“GMHBA Stadium will undergo significant redevelopment throughout 2022, and this marks the first time we have had nine home games here during building works. This is a positive outcome and we thank the AFL for understanding how important it is to play games at GMHBA Stadium. 

Afl Releases Rounds 16 19 Fixtures

“We recognise that this fixture has only the opening nine rounds locked in. We know that our members would like a fixture with all game times confirmed, but we understand the AFL’s wish for flexibility. We will ensure all of our members and supporters are kept up to date in terms of scheduling so they can plan ahead.”

With the eight rounds released today, the Cats will feature across Friday night, Saturday and Sunday fixtures with four of those matches at home at GMHBA Stadium.

There's No Place Like Home For Geelong

Geelong will play in a Friday night match up in Sydney against the Swans in Round 16, in what could potentially be the last time the Cats play against a Swans line-up that includes Lance Franklin.

The Cats will host home games against North Melbourne (Rd 17), Essendon (Rd 18), Fremantle (Rd 20) and Port Adelaide (Rd 21). These matches are spread across different timeslots and include the Bombers and Port Adelaide games as primetime Saturday night matches. The Cats and Bombers Saturday night match will be only the second time the clubs have met for the four points at GMHBA Stadium in the last 29 years – having played in Round 21 1993 and then more recently in Round 16 2021.

“Our Geelong members and fans will be excited to have the timeslots confirmed for our run of home games in the AFL’s fixture release today. We have a strong set of games at GMHBA Stadium where we will host the Kangaroos, Bombers, Dockers and Port Adelaide, ” Geelong CEO Steve Hocking said.

The Cats will also have two marquee games in Melbourne against Collingwood in another Friday night match at the MCG and St Kilda on a Saturday afternoon at Marvel Stadium.

“While we love playing in Geelong, we’re also looking forward to two big consecutive games in Melbourne against Collingwood and St Kilda in rounds 22 and 23, which will be pivotal to our run home, ” Hocking said.

The AFL will confirm the timeslot for the Club’s Round 24 match against the Western Bulldogs at GMHBA Stadium approximately four weeks in advance.

Of the timeslots that have been confirmed by the AFL so far (being those up to and including Round 15), there is a strong mix of slots including primetime Thursday, Friday and Saturday night matches as well as afternoon and twilight games, providing something for all Geelong members and fans.

The Club will be on the road six times, with two trips to Adelaide for Gather Round in Round 5 and against Port Adelaide in Round 14, as well as trips to play the Gold Coast in Round 3, Fremantle in Round 10, Sydney in Round 16 and Brisbane in Round 19.
